Sikinos a quiet and remote island in Greece, a stone’s throw from Santorini with a population of about 300 people is an island where you can experience a true traditional life style.
The main habitation clusters are the port of Alopronia the village “Hora” and the Kastro village. Kastro if about 4 kilometres far from the port and it was named after the Venetian fortress that stood here in the 13th century. Today it is a truly charming, lived-in place, with winding alleyways between brilliant white houses. At its heart is the main square and the Church of Pantanassa. Check out the buildings surrounding the church which were homes to the town’s wealthy merchants, two-storey affairs with remnants of ornate stonework around the windows.
Sikinos has great beaches, sandy ones but rocky others. Alopronia is a small one, Agios Nikolaos is another a few kilometres walk from the port with shallow clear water. Agios Georgios, Malta and Karra beaches are a few others that you can enjoy in Sikinos.
