The Meltemi is the defining weather feature of the Greek summer. This strong northerly wind blows through the Aegean from June to September, with peak intensity in July and August. **What it means for your charter:** - In the Cyclades, the Meltemi can blow 25–35 knots (Force 6–7) for days at a time in July–August. This creates rough seas and can limit your itinerary options. - In the Ionian Sea, the Meltemi has minimal effect. The Ionian enjoys gentle thermal breezes and calm conditions throughout summer. - In the Saronic Gulf, the Meltemi is moderate — noticeable but rarely problematic. - In the Dodecanese, conditions are generally calmer than the Cyclades but windier than the Ionian. **Our advice:** If you want to cruise the Cyclades, choose June or September when the Meltemi is gentler. If you're set on July–August, consider the Ionian or Saronic for calmer conditions. Your captain will always adjust the route based on conditions — flexibility is the key to a great charter.
