Greece rewards a route designed for the guests rather than a rigid checklist. Weekly base rate
Each listing shows a weekly base charter rate with a ‘from’ qualifier where appropriate. The base rate is not the complete holiday cost. Total spend depends on the yacht, dates, route, fuel use, provisioning, berths, tax treatment, requested extras and any delivery or re-delivery. Aegean Yachting will prepare a dated, yacht-specific estimate after checking live availability.
APA and tax
The Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA, is a pre-funded operating-expense account rather than a markup. It is used at cost for variable items such as fuel, food and drinks, berthing, shore transport and agreed extras. The captain maintains the accounts and reconciles the balance. There is no single universal legal threshold. The term usually describes the scale of a professionally crewed private-yacht experience, including a captain, specialist crew, substantial guest spaces and a tailored itinerary. On this page, it is a practical collection label for current Aegean Yachting listings with a recorded length of 40 metres or more.
Treat the displayed figure as the weekly base fee for the yacht and crew, subject to the stated season and availability. It is not normally an all-inclusive trip total. Yacht specification, dates and demand influence the rate. Your proposal should separately explain variable operating costs, applicable taxes, delivery or re-delivery and requested extras.
APA means Advance Provisioning Allowance. It is a prepayment used at cost for variable charter expenses such as fuel, provisions, beverages, berths, harbour charges, shore transport and agreed special requests. The amount varies by yacht and itinerary. The captain maintains the accounts, may request a top-up if needed and reconciles any remaining balance after the charter.
Tax can be payable in addition to the base charter fee and is separate from APA. The treatment may depend on the route and other contractual facts, so it should be quoted specifically rather than assumed from a headline percentage. The captain is responsible for safe operation and has final authority where navigation, weather or local rules require a change. Depending on the yacht, the wider team may include deck crew, interior staff, a chef and specialist roles. Crew numbers, qualifications and services differ by yacht and should be confirmed during the selection process.
Flexibility is a central benefit of private charter. The captain and broker can often adapt the route around the party’s preferences, but changes may be limited by wind, sea state, safe passage time, berth availability, fuel use, local rules or the contracted re-delivery point. A coherent regional plan with spare time creates the best room for spontaneity.
